5 Money Tips for Going to the Beach

With summer time in full effect, going to beach is a great frugal way to spend your time with family and friends! Before you get all excited and head out to the beach, make sure you are frugally prepared so you don’t find yourself adding additional costs to your free beach trip. Check out these helpful frugal tips to reduce your beach costs and get the most of each stay-cation!

1. Bring change – When it comes to parking, you may only have the option to pay a meter with quarters.  If this is the case, make sure to bring plenty of change with you on your next beach trip! You don’t want to find yourself with a parking ticket that could eat up money that could otherwise be used for something more exciting like a new outfit or going to see a movie.

2. Shop at your local dollar store – For sun umbrellas, beach towels and coolers, make sure to check out your local dollar store. Instead of getting an expensive cooler from Wal-Mart, get a disposable one from the dollar store.

3. Borrow supplies — Better yet, if you know someone with a cooler, ask to borrow theirs! If you have friends or family who are big beach-goers, call them up and ask to politely borrow their beach stuff.  It will save you some cash and still allow you to enjoy the sunny weather!

4. Bring your own food – Food and drink prices on or near the beach can be 50% higher. Don’t find yourself paying $4.00 for a bottle of water, instead, bring your own food & drinks and have a mini BBQ with your loved ones!

5. Don’t forget the sunscreen! — If you are at the beach all day without sunscreen, you could suffer from different short-term and long-term effects of the sun.  If you get a bad sunburn, you may find yourself unable to go to work or school on the next week day which could affect your wallet. Also, if you repeatedly get sun burnt over the years, you could get skin cancer which could increase your medical costs and seriously endanger your health – two things you definitely want to stay away from!

  1. These are all valid tips that I would suggest as well. I did not however think of the bring change part. That is smart as you never know when you have to pay to park. Mr.CBB
