Frugal Living: Things to Buy in April

For those of you who have a tax return coming back to you, I am sure you have an idea of what new toys or investments you want to use that money on.  If you are going to make a purchase this Spring, the PowerWallet team wants to steer you in the right frugal direction.  There are certain times of the year when it is more economical to buy certain items.  Although shopping temptations sometimes get the best of us, we want to let you in on smart buys for the month of April.

Winter Clothing. Now that the season has officially changed, stores are out with the old and in with the new! Winter jackets and coats are on sale in stores like Forever 21 and Macy’s to make room for all the new spring and color-filled dresses, shorts and sandals.

Cruise Deals. If you want to plan a family cruise get-a-way this summer, now would be the best chance to land the best deal.  Most cruise lines allow you to make a refundable down payment and then give you a month or two to pay the remainder off.  This way, your budget won’t take such a big hit at once.

Summer airfare deals. There are plenty of affordable airfare deals for traveling April through June, they just aren’t advertised. Sign up for alerts when flights go on sale.  You can even choose the destination you are looking for a great deal – but once you receive an alert, don’t wait too long! The deals usually only last a few hours until they go on sale to the entire public.

Vacuum cleaners.  As a part of spring cleaning, older versions of vacuums go on sale to make room for new models – take this advantage to get a new vacuum for a discounted price.

In-season produce. Score big deals on foods like artichokes, pineapples, strawberries, and more now through June as this is their prime season.  Look in your local grocery store or farmer’s market for deals like “buy one, get one free.”
