A Fresh Look for Spring without High Home Renovation Costs

by on March 26, 2012

If you’re like many people, spring is the time to shake off the clutter and get to all those home repairs and improvements you’ve been meaning to get fixed. With most Americans continuing to face tight budget restraints from the tough economy, there simply isn’t much money left over to make all the upgrades and improvements you want.

Even if you’re on a tight budget, you can still improve your home and give it a fresh look for spring without spending too much of your cash. Here are 7 tips to give your home a refreshed spring time feeling.

Add a fresh coat of paint. Some fresh paint in a new bright color can drastically change the look of your home without costing you a lot of cash. You can usually get a can of paint and a roller for less than $30 at discount home improvement stores. This can work indoors for all your rooms, as well as outdoors depending on your house. You can even change your exterior trim color for an entirely different look.
Buy some perennials and get to planting. Perennial plants grow again every year, so you don’t have to replace them with each new season. When you visit your local nursery or garden section of a hardware store, ask the attendants to help you find some nice perennials—this way, you don’t have huge repeat landscaping costs each year. If possible, get plants native to your area to reduce your water costs!
Steam clean curtains and drapes. Sometimes all you need is to simply give everything a good wash to get out the winter grime that’s built up. If you have a steam iron with a vertical steam iron, you can even steam clean your curtains and drapes without having to take them down. Your home will look and smell fresher with just this little bit of work.
Rearrange your furniture for better feng shui. If you’re tired of how your house looks but you don’t really need any new furniture, just try switching things up a bit and rearranging what you have. Simply changing up the flow of your house can give it an entirely different feel for spring.
Change up your tchotchke. Also referred to all small trinkets and toys – these knickknacks are inexpensive and easy to change the fell and look of your home. Things like the art on your walls or new pictures, flowers, and candles can give your home a new and revised spring time feeling.
Switch out towels and shades. Redesign parts of your home by changing up your towels and lampshades with new and affordable sets to give any room an entirely new look.
Change your fixtures. From light fixtures to cabinet knobs or sink faucets, small fixtures don’t usually cost a lot of money at home improvement stores and they can dramatically change the look and feel of your home.
